Vice Provost for Academic Operations
As Vice Provost for Academic Operations I oversee undergraduate education and academic program reviews.
In matters related to undergraduate education I focus especially on the first year experience at Tennessee. This includes administering the First Year Studies 129 freshman seminar program, as well as the academic component of Orientation and Welcome Week, which collectively we call the Light the Torch of Academic Excellence program. I also coordinate the UT LEAD Summer Institute for incoming freshmen. I work with many academic policy issues, such as grades/grading scales, add/drop deadlines, communicating end of the semester academic policies, and the like. Finally, in-state tuition appeals and academic dismissal appeals are also handled in my office.
As coordinator of academic program reviews I schedule, coordinate, and supervise the regular evaluation of academic programs at the University of Tennessee. Such reviews are mandated by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, and typically include a full academic program review every ten years, followed by a mid-cycle update three years later. These reviews, which include a detailed self-study produced by the department, guide the administration in its planning and allocation of resources across the university.
